The Eagles gave the Homecoming crowd plenty to celebrate Friday night, putting together a dominant performance on both sides of the football in a 35-0 victory! Byron’s rushing attack was the story offensively, piling up 393 yards on the ground and averaging over 14 yards per carry. Sophomore #33 Forgie led the way with a monster night, carrying the ball 14 times for 184 yards and FOUR touchdowns, including a 77-yard run. Junior #2 L'Esperance added 125 yards on just 6 carries, averaging over 20 yards per attempt and finding the end zone once with a long run of 54 yards. Sophomore #10 Herbst chipped in another 64 yards on only 3 carries, giving the Eagles three different runners with 60+ yards on the night. Altogether, Byron finished with 420 yards of total offense, with all five touchdowns coming on the ground. But as impressive as the offense was, the Eagle defense may have been even better. Byron pitched its first SHUTOUT, keeping the opponent off the scoreboard for all four quarters. The defense consistently found its way into the backfield, led by Senior #8 Ritter with 5 tackles for loss and a sack, while Sophomore #12 Gatica recorded 3 TFLs and Sophomore #14 Villani added 2 more. Junior #27 Mackay led the team with 5 tackles, while Sophomore #12 Gatica and Freshman #26 Robinson each added 4. A 35-0 Homecoming win, nearly 400 yards rushing, and a defensive shutout.
