The Byron Eagles and Dryden put on an offensive show Saturday afternoon, combining for 150 points in a back-and-forth shootout. Unfortunately, the Eagles came up on the wrong side of the final score, falling 84-66. Despite the loss, Byron's offense had a huge afternoon, particularly on the ground. The Eagles rushed for 457 yards, led by two players who both eclipsed the 200-yard mark. Sophomore #33 Forgie carried the ball 33 times for 245 yards and a touchdown, averaging 7.4 yards per carry. Junior #2 L'Esperance added 213 yards on 29 carries and found the end zone six times, averaging 7.3 yards per attempt. A performance like that doesn't happen without the guys up front. A huge shoutout goes to the Byron offensive line, which battled all afternoon and consistently created running lanes against Dryden. Having two different backs players rush for more than 200 yards in the same game is an impressive accomplishment, and the work being done in the trenches was a major reason the Eagles were able to move the ball so effectively. Byron also found success through the air. Junior #2 L'Esperance completed 7-of-9 passes for 77 yards and a touchdown, finishing the afternoon responsible for seven total touchdowns. Junior #44 Adkins led the receiving attack with three catches for 55 yards, while Sophomore #14 Villani caught three passes for 19 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, Sophomore #12 Gatica led Byron with four tackles and recovered a fumble, while Sophomore #33 Forgie recorded a sack and a tackle for loss. Senior #8 Ritter also forced a fumble, and Sophomore #64 McCartney recorded 1.5 tackles for loss. The scoreboard didn't fall Byron's way, but the Eagles showed plenty of fight while putting up 66 points and more than 500 yards of offense against an undefeated Dryden team. The Eagles will look to build off the offensive performance and get back in the win column as they move into the next week of the season. Final: Dryden 84, Byron 66
