The Byron Eagles made history Friday night, putting together the highest-scoring performance in program history with a 70-36 victory over Memphis. The record-breaking win improves Byron to 5-3 on the season and keeps the Eagles' hopes of reaching the postseason for the first time since 2020 alive. Byron's offense was nearly unstoppable throughout the night, led by an incredible performance from Sophomore #33 Forgie, who rushed for 396 yards and five touchdowns on 26 carries. Averaging an impressive 15.2 yards per carry, Forgie consistently broke through the Memphis defense, including a 95-yard run that highlighted his dominant night. Junior #2 L'Esperance also had a huge night for the Eagles, rushing for 76 yards and four touchdowns on just six carries. He also connected with Junior #44 Adkins on a 40-yard touchdown pass, giving him a hand in five of Byron's touchdowns. Altogether, the Eagles finished with 473 rushing yards and 513 total yards of offense, finding the end zone 10 times in the historic victory. A major part of that offensive success came from Byron's offensive line, which continued to create running lanes and give the Eagles opportunities to make big plays. The offensive front has been a major factor in Byron's success this season, and Friday night was another example of just how dangerous this rushing attack can be when the Eagles are clicking. Defensively, Byron came up with several important plays to help secure the win. Junior #27 MacKay led the way with three tackles, an interception, and a fumble recovery. L'Esperance also recorded an interception, giving the Eagles two takeaways through the air. Forgie contributed on both sides of the ball, recording a sack and two tackles for loss, while Freshman #35 Jones added three tackles and a sack of his own. Junior #50 Hetchler finished with three tackles, and senior #8 Ritter and sophomore #64 McCartney also made plays behind the line of scrimmage. Sophomore #14 Villani was credited with a forced fumble. While Memphis was able to put points on the board, Byron's defense made key stops and created turnovers that helped keep the momentum in the Eagles' favor. With the victory, Byron now sits at 5-3 heading into its regular-season finale against Marlette, who enters the matchup with a 6-2 record. The matchup presents a big opportunity for the Eagles as they look to finish the regular season strong and put themselves in position for a potential playoff. For a Byron program that has not reached the postseason since 2020, the opportunity to return to playoff football adds even more excitement to the final week of the regular season. Friday night's historic 70-point performance is another sign of the growth this team has made throughout the season. The Eagles have continued to battle, improve, and put themselves in a position to accomplish something that hasn't been done in Byron football in six years. A school scoring record, a winning season secured, and a chance to return to the playoffs for the first time since 2020. The Eagles will look to carry that momentum into their final regular-season matchup against Marlette, with plenty still left to play for.
