The Byron Varsity Baseball team earned two strong non-conference wins over rival Morrice on Monday April 17. Strong pitching and hitting were keys for the Eagles as they had a combined 22 hits between the two games while allowing just 3 combined hits for Morrice.
In game one the Eagles jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the first inning before scoring six more in the 2nd inning to win 14-0 in just five innings of play. Jacob Murph went 3-3 with five RBI’s to lead the Eagles with Reid L’Esperance going 2-2 with a homerun and three RBI’s. Hunter Richardson went 3-4 on the day with two runs scored and Payne Staton, Hunter Cool and Zac Geiser each recorded a hit and scored two runs apiece. On the mound Hunter Richardson earned the win throwing four strong innings giving up just two hits while striking out eleven. Payne Staton came in for relief and threw one inning and record two strikeouts and gave up zero hits.
In game two of the doubleheader the Eagles kept the bats going winning 9-1 in seven innings. Chris Jamison, Hunter Cool and Kyle Hulett combined to go 5-8 with three runs scored and four RBI’s. Payne Staton and Reid L’Esperance went a combined 2-7 with three RBI’s and two runs scored. On the mound Payne Staton earned the win firing a perfect five innings giving up zero hits, zero runs, and no walks while striking out seven. Kyle Hulett came in for relief and pitched two strong innings giving up one run on one hit while striking out five.
