Boys Varsity Baseball @ MHSAA Districts

The Byron Varsity Baseball team took 2nd place at the MHSAA District Tournament held at Bendle High School on Saturday June 3rd. The Eagles beat Atherton in the first game 13-1 to earn a spot in the finals only to end up losing to Durand 2-1.
In game one Kyle Hulett earned the win going five innings giving up just one run on three hits while striking out five. Payne Staton and Hunter Richardson combined to go 7-8 at the plate with six RBIs and five runs scored.
In game two Payne Staton earned the loss giving up two runs (zero earned) on two hits while striking out eight batters. At the plate Hunter Richardson, Reid, L’Esperance, Payne Staton, Justin Musson and Jared Krejci each had a hit in the game.

The Byron Varsity Baseball team wrapped up their regular season with two tough losses to Lake Fenton on Tuesday May 30th.
In game one the Eagles lost 13-1. Payne Staton earned the loss giving up nine unearned runs on eight hits in 2 1/3 innings. At the plate Hunter Richardson and Reid L’Esperance each had two hits apiece and Hunter Cool, Kyle Hulett, Zac Geiser and Justin Musson each recorded a hit.
In game two Justin Musson pitched very well but had no help from his defense giving up 12 total runs (5 earned) in four inning of work. At the plate Payne Staton went 2-3 and Jacob Murph and Reid L’Esperance each had a hit.

The Byron Varsity Baseball team lost two both games of the doubleheader to Linden on Thursday May 25th.
In game one to many errors proved to be costly for the Eagles as they lost 13-1. Payne Staton took the loss on the mound giving up five runs in five innings. Kyle Hulett threw two solid innings of relief but received very little help from his defense giving up 8 runs but just three of them were earned. At the plate Reid LEsperance and Payne Staton each had a hit for the Eagles.
In game two the game was tied up 3-3 going into the 6th inning before Linden tacked one run in the 6th and four more in the 7th to win 8-3. Hunter Richardson had a dominant performance on the mound giving up only one earned run on just one hit while striking out seven. Trey Pehrson earned the loss giving up five runs in just over one inning of work. At the plate Payne Staton, Zac Geiser and Trey Pehrson each had a hit.

The Byron Varsity Baseball team tied for 3rd place in the Lakeville D3/4 Showcase Tournament held at Kearsley and Broome Parks on Saturday May 20th. The Eagles lost 8-5 to a tough Millington team to start the day to force them into the consolation bracket. In game two the Eagles scored on a walk-off passed ball in the bottom of the 7th to win 6-5 over Almont and move into the consolation championship. The Eagles were set to face Lakeville in the consolation championship before the game was called due to rain ending in a two way tie for 3rd place.

The Byron Varsity Baseball team earned a pair of non-conference wins over Hamady on Wednesday May 17th. The Eagles hit the ball well recording 20 total hits between the two games.
In game one the eagles started off slow before pulling away to win 15-0 in four innings. Jared Krejci, Reid L’Esperance and Hunter Richardson had two hits apiece. Payne Staton, Justin Musson and Chris Jamison each had one hit in the game. On the mound Justin Musson earned his first varsity win as a starting pitcher throwing four scoreless innings giving up just one hit while striking out eight.
In game two the Eagle offense was once again potent as they won 17-0 in three innings. Kyle Hulett and Payne Staton each had three hits and Trey Pehrson had two hits including a homerun to centerfield. To go along with his homerun Trey Pehrson earned his first varsity victory as a pitcher throwing a three inning no-hitter while striking out eight batters.

The Byron Varsity Baseball team lost a pair of games to New Lothrop on Monday May 15th. The Eagles came into the game battling for first place in the conference but a sweep by New Lothrop moves them into third place.
In game one the Eagles took a scoreless game into the 5th inning before New Lothrop scored three runs in the 5th and six runs in the 6th inning to pull away to win 9-1. Hunter Richardson and Reid L’Esperance recorded the only two hits for Byron in the game. On the mound Payne Staton earned the loss giving up eight runs on seven hits in five innings of work. Reid L’Esperance came in for relief and allowed one run one hit in two innings of work.
In game two the Byron offense stalled again as they scored only one run in a 13-1 loss. Reid L’Esperance led the team with 3 hits and Hunter Richardson, Kyle Hulett and Jared Krejci each recorded a hit in the game. On the mound Hunter Richardson took the loss giving up nine runs on six hits while walking three in three innings of work. Kyle Hulett came in for relief and gave up four runs in two innings and walked five batters.

The Byron Varsity Baseball team lost two tough contests against Montrose on Thursday May 11th. The Rams came from behind in both games to win it in the 7th inning.
In game one the eagles took a 2-0 lead into the 7th inning before losing 3-2. Zac Geiser and Kyle Hulett each had two hits on the day. Reid L’Esperance added a hit and two RBI’s and Payne Staton and Tommy Murray each had a hit in the game. On the mound Hunter Richardson earned the loss giving up three runs (zero earned) on three hits while striking out twelve and walking four.
In game two the Eagles took a 1-1 tie into the 7th inning before Montrose tacked on two runs to win 3-1. Zac Geiser went 2-3 and Hunter Cool, Payne Staton and Jacob Green each had a hit. On the mound Payne Staton earned the no-decision going six innings giving up one run on one hit while striking out twelve. Reid L’Esperance took the loss giving up two runs in one inning of work.

The Byron Varsity Baseball team earned two conference wins over Genesee on Monday May 8th.
In game one the eagles won 16-1 behind the bat of Payne Staton who went 2-3 with four RBI’s at the plate. Kyle Hulett went 2-3 with two RBI’s, and Justin Musson and Jared Krejci combined for two hits and four RBI’s. On the mound Payne Staton earned the win going four innings and only giving up one run on two hits while striking out eight.
In game two the eagles won 14-0 in five innings. Payne Staton and Hunter Cool combined to go 6-7 with five RBI’s and five runs scored. Reid L’Esperance, Hunter Richardson and Trey Pehrson each had two this on the day. On the mound Hunter Richardson earned the win going four innings and giving up zero runs on two hits while striking out seven. Kyle Hulett came in for relief and went one inning giving up zero hits and striking out one.

The Byron Varsity Baseball team hosted their annual Wooden Bat Tournament on Saturday May 6th. The Eagles played well but ended up taking third place overall falling to Durand and Algonac.
In game one the Eagles faced Durand and took a quick 2-0 lead after the 2nd inning before eventually failing 10-2 with most of the damage coming in during the seven run 5th inning. The Eagles had a tough time finding the strike zone giving up 14 walks to go along with 4 errors in the field. Kyle Hulett earned the no-decision going 2 2/3 innings giving up two runs on one hit while striking out three and walking four. Trey Pehrson earned the loss giving up 5 runs on zero hits while walking seven batters and striking out three. Hunter Cool pitched in relief and gave up three runs on two hits while walking three and striking out four in two innings of work. At the plate the Eagles collected seven hits. Hunter Cool and Zac Geiser each had two hits apiece and Payne Staton, Reid L’Esperance and Kyle Hulett each had a hit.
In game two the Eagles took a 0-0 game into the 5th inning before Algonac broke out to score six runs in the final three innings. At the plate Zac Geiser and Kyle Hulett had the only two hits for the Eagles. On the mound Payne Staton earned the loss giving up one run on one hit while striking out six in 4 2/3 innings of work. Reid L’Esperance came in for relief and gave up five runs on three hits while striking out three and walking six in 2 1/3 innings.

The Byron Varsity Baseball team swept a doubleheader with Bendle on Thursday April 27. The Eagles gave up only two hits and zero runs in two games as they won 15-0 and 21-0.
In game one a late offensive surge for the Eagles powered them to a win as they scored 11 runs in the 4th and 5th innings to win 15-0. Payne Staton went 0-2 with three RBI’s and two runs scored, Jacob Murph went 1-2 with two RBI’s and Kyle Hulett, Zac Geiser and Hunter Richardson each had one hit and one RBI with scoring a combined 6 runs. On the mound Hunter Richardson got the win going 5 innings and giving up only two hits, no runs while striking out nine and walking two.
In game two an 11 run first inning sealed the win as the eagles scored 21 runs in three innings to earn the win. Hunter Richardson went 3-3 with an RBI and four runs scored. Tommy Murray went 2-2 with four RBIs and Jacob Green went 1-3 with a grand slam. Trey Pehrson, Payne Staton and Zac Geiser each had a hit and two RBI’s. On the mound Payne Staton fired a perfect game to earn the win giving up zero runs and no hits in three innings while striking out six and walking none.

The Byron Varsity Baseball team had a rough start to their conference season losing both games of their doubleheader to Bentley on Monday April 24.
In game one too many errors proved to be costly for the Eagles as they gave up 3 unearned runs in a 4-1 loss. Zac Geiser went 2-3 with an RBI and Kyle Hulett, Payne Staton and Hunter Cool each had one hit apiece. On the mound Hunter Richardson earned the loss giving up four runs (one earned) on one hit while striking out 6 batters and walking four. Kyle Hulett threw four strong innings in relief giving up zero hits while striking out seven batters and walking two.
In game two costly errors were once again an issue as both teams were tied 1-1 in the 5th inning before Bentley scored four in the 5th inning and five in the 6th inning to win 10-1. Kyle Hulett went 1-3 with an RBI and Zac Geiser, Payne Staton, Justin Musson and Cody Rickman each had one hit apiece. On the mound Payne Staton threw four quality innings giving up one run on two hits while striking out four to earn the no decision. Trey Pehrson received the loss going 2/3 innings giving up 4 runs (one earned) with two strikeouts and three walks. Justin Musson came in for relief and went 1 1/3 innings giving up 5 runs (one earned) on one hit whiling striking out one and walking one.

The Byron Varsity Baseball team earned two strong non-conference wins over rival Morrice on Monday April 17. Strong pitching and hitting were keys for the Eagles as they had a combined 22 hits between the two games while allowing just 3 combined hits for Morrice.
In game one the Eagles jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the first inning before scoring six more in the 2nd inning to win 14-0 in just five innings of play. Jacob Murph went 3-3 with five RBI’s to lead the Eagles with Reid L’Esperance going 2-2 with a homerun and three RBI’s. Hunter Richardson went 3-4 on the day with two runs scored and Payne Staton, Hunter Cool and Zac Geiser each recorded a hit and scored two runs apiece. On the mound Hunter Richardson earned the win throwing four strong innings giving up just two hits while striking out eleven. Payne Staton came in for relief and threw one inning and record two strikeouts and gave up zero hits.
In game two of the doubleheader the Eagles kept the bats going winning 9-1 in seven innings. Chris Jamison, Hunter Cool and Kyle Hulett combined to go 5-8 with three runs scored and four RBI’s. Payne Staton and Reid L’Esperance went a combined 2-7 with three RBI’s and two runs scored. On the mound Payne Staton earned the win firing a perfect five innings giving up zero hits, zero runs, and no walks while striking out seven. Kyle Hulett came in for relief and pitched two strong innings giving up one run on one hit while striking out five.

The Byron Varsity Baseball team earned a non-conference split over Laingsburg on Thursday April 13.
In game one the Wolfpack jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after the 2nd inning and the Eagles could not muster a strong enough comeback recording only 2 hits over seven innings to take a 4-1 loss. Hunter Richardson and Zac Geiser recorded the only two hits for the Eagles with Hunter Richardson scoring the only run in the bottom of the 5th inning. On the mound Hunter Richardson earned the loss giving up 4 runs (2 earned) on two hits over 4 1/3 innings while striking out 5 and walking 8. Payne Staton and Kyle Hulett came in and combined to throw 2 2/3 innings of shutout baseball while striking out two and walking two.
In game two the Eagles bats came alive winning 11-4 in four innings as the game was called due to darkness. Hunter Richardson and Hunter Cool combined to go went 5-5 at the plate with five RBI’s and six runs scored. Payne Staton and Reid L’Esperance went a combined 2-5 at the plate with four RBI’s and Zac Geiser recorded a run and had two RBI’s as well. On the mound Justin Musson earned his first varsity win going three innings and only giving up two runs (1 earned) on just one hit. Trey Pehrson threw one inning and gave up two runs on zero hits.

The Byron Varsity Baseball split a doubleheader with Holly on Monday April 10.
The Eagles fought hard in game one going into the fifth inning with a 1-1 game but ended up losing 7-1. Reid L’Esperance and Payne Staton combined to go 2-4 with 1 RBI. Hunter Richardson went 3 2/3 innings giving up 1 run on three hits while striking out 7. Kyle Hulett took the loss giving up six runs (5 earned) on 2 hits in 2/3s inning. Hunter Cool finished the game going 1 2/3 innings and gave up one hit.

Payne Staton led the way for the Eagles going 2-2 with 2 RBIs on the game. Hunter Richardson went 1-2 and scored a run and Hunter Cool went 0-2 with a run and an RBI. Kyle Hulett and Thomas Murray each scored a run for the Eagles as well. On the mound Payne Staton went three strong innings to earn the win giving up one run on one hit while striking out 5. Trey Pehrson came in during the 4th inning and gave up one unearned run and stuck out one.

The Byron Varsity Boys Baseball team kicked off their season with a doubleheader at Perry on Wednesday.
The first game ended in a 2-2 tie after 8 innings as neither team could really muster up any offense combining for just 3 hits. Reid L’Esperance led the way on offense for the Eagles going 1 for 3 with one walk an RBI. Hunter Cool went 0-1 but had 4 stolen bases and scored a run and Trey Pehrson went 1-4 with two walks, one stolen base and scored one run. Hunter Richardson started the game on the mound and went 5 innings giving up 1 unearned run on zero hits with 12 strikeouts to just 2 walks. Kyle Hulett relieved Hunter and went 3 innings giving up 1 unearned run on 1 hit and strikeout 2 while walking 4.
Game two was called after 3 innings due to darkness with Perry leading 2-1. Hunter Richardson went 2-2 at the plate with a double, a stolen base and scored one run. Reid L’Esperance went 1-2 with an RBI and a stolen base. Trey Pehrson got the start on the mound at went two innings giving up two unearned runs on 3 hits while striking out 3 and walking 3. Justin Musson threw one inning of relief work and had 1 strikeout and gave up no hits.
